The Department for Work and Pensions has insisted its plans
for universal credit are on track, despite criticism from MPs. The DWP has
published its response to a report from the Work and Pensions Committee. The
committee warned the government’s timetable for universal credit was
‘ambitious’ and more needs to be done to ensure vulnerable people’s needs are
met. The DWP response said a pilot to
test the real-time technology is ‘on track’ and there will be six million
people on the system by next month. It added that there will be back-up
provisions for tenants to ‘self-report’ if the technology fails. Read more on Inside Housing.
