Eight In 10 Want A Say On All Housing In Their Local Area

Eight in 10 residents want to be able to have their say on all new homes built in their local community. A survey by the LGA found 82 per cent of respondents felt it was important to be able to comment on individual plans for all housing developments in their local area. The LGA says it is vital that a local, democratically-led planning system remains in place so local communities can continue to have their say on individual developments, and ensure the right homes are built in the right places, supported by the right infrastructure. Tory MPs Set Out ‘Fresh Blueprint’ For Future Of Housing


A group of 10 Conservative MPs from the 2019 intake have set out a blueprint for the future of housing over the next decade. The proposals, outlined in in a post-Budget report: Valuing Housing, Improving Lives encompasses how housing policy and the planning system could be directed to supporting the most vulnerable in society. Contributions for supporting the vulnerable include proposals for a ‘preservation of life’ Act to tackle rough sleeping; support to victims of domestic abuse and extending the housing first system to prevention first approach that sees additional spending allocated for frontline and preventative services. All-Party Parliamentary Group to Tackle National Housing Emergency

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is taking a lead role in supporting a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Housing and Planning. The APPG for Housing and Planning, will be chaired by James Cartlidge, Conservative MP for South Suffolk, and is tasked with recommending wide-ranging, innovative solutions to reshape the housing market. The APPG will consider increasing the housing stock for both rental and private ownership, and speeding up building of sustainable housing in the UK, which now faces an annual shortfall of 130,000 homes. The APPG consists of MPs from a range of urban and rural constituencies. Read more on the RICS website.
