Private Rented Housing – Parliamentary Written Answer

Hilary Benn:  To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what steps he is taking to promote the take-up of the model agreement for a shorthold assured tenancy.
Brandon Lewis: [Holding answer 15 December 2014]: My Department is promoting both the model agreement and longer tenancies with bodies representing landlords, tenants and letting agents as well as mortgage lenders. We have also promoted and encouraged all local authorities to adopt the agreement.

New Model Tenancy Agreement Unveiled For Private Rented Sector

Tenants living in the private rented sector will be given more certainty and security under a new 'model tenancy agreement' unveiled by Housing Minister Brandon Lewis. The model agreement is part of a new range of measures designed to help PRS tenants, which also includes a new code of practice. The minister insisted the new measures would provide "hard-working" tenants with the help they need without strangling the industry in red tape and regulation. Read more on 24dash.
