Councils who grant planning permission for new homes now are set to receive ‘backdated’ incentives from the government. The CLG confirmed that councils which allow homes to be built should not lose out, despite the fact a new government incentive system has yet to be introduced. The confirmation clarified a speech made by communities secretary Eric Pickles earlier this month in which he stated: ‘Those local authorities which take action now to consent and support the construction of new homes will receive direct and substantial benefit from their actions.’ A spokesperson for the CLG said payments would be triggered once developments were completed and that the developments being approved now were likely to be built after the consultation had taken place and the incentive scheme introduced.
