Council Financial Incentives to Build Housing - Parliamentary Written Answers

John Denham MP:
*What estimate has been made of the cost to his Department of providing incentives to local authorities to make provision for new housing development in each of the next three years?
*How much is expected to be received by each (a) district council, (b) unitary authority and (c) county council on average in incentives for the provision of new social housing in each of the next three years?
*Will the Government publish the financial models used to design his policy to provide incentives to local authorities to make provision for new housing development?
Grant Shapps MP: We are committed to increasing housing supply and seeing more of the homes that people want, in the places that people want them, to meet Britain's housing need. The coalition agreement set out our clear intention to provide incentives for local authorities to deliver sustainable development, including new homes and business. Officials are working up the design of the new scheme and we will consult on it later this year. We are committed to housing growth, introducing these incentives will be a priority and we aim to do so early in the spending review period. Those local authorities which take action now to consent and support the construction of new homes will receive direct and substantial benefit from their actions.
