ALMOs could bear a significant burden of their parent councils’ cuts, a report has warned. Housing consultants Steve Douglas and Lanek Banga predict that ALMOs will be expected to contribute to council budget cuts of between 15 to 25 per cent, rather than simply those in the housing revenue account. The study, Whose stock is it anyway? Local authority perspectives on the future of ALMOs, said: ‘Where [councils] were considering retaining their ALMOs there was an increased expectation the ALMOs would contribute to savings and efficiencies required by the local authority as a whole, not just to the housing revenue account - for example, bearing costs that might previously have been in the general fund.’ Read more on Inside Housing.
