Shapps: Waiting List Figures Show Urgent Need for Housing Reform

Housing Minister Grant Shapps has pointed to the latest numbers of families on waiting lists as further evidence of the need for fundamental reform of the system for allocating social homes. Official statistics show there are 1.75 million households waiting to be allocated a council or housing association home - up 72 per cent over the past 13 years. Commenting on these latest figures, Mr Shapps argued that councils must be given the flexibility they desperately need to better ease the housing pressures their communities face.
