ALMO tenants feel they have been ‘betrayed’ by the government, the National Federation of ALMOs has said. The umbrella body said tenants have been let down by recent announcements on funding for work carried out under the decent homes programme. The government said last month it expects landlords to fund work to improve the last 10 per cent of non-decent homes themselves. This means those that have completed 90 per cent of more of their programmes will receive no further funding from April next year. It is also allowing councils to bid directly for funding for the first time, increasing demand on the £2 billion pot, and has scrapped the requirement that ALMOs must receive two stars from the Audit Commission to be eligible for funding. The NFA said the changes will leave many ALMOs with a funding shortfall.
