Liberal Democrat councils may only offer families a family-sized social home until their children move out, the head of the party’s housing policy review has suggested. Nick Stanton, former leader of Southwark Council, made the suggestion ahead of the party’s spring conference in Sheffield. His comments about social tenancies for families gave the first indication about the possible direction of travel. He said: ‘We need to be asking a question which hasn’t been asked for many years, which is what is social housing for? In some areas, councils might be able to say you can have a family-sized flat, but only for as long as you have a family.’ Read more on Inside Housing.
