A scheme that gives new council tenants help with furnishing their homes has hit another major milestone. A total of 400 customers have now taken advantage of South Tyneside Homes’ furnished tenancy scheme since it was launched in September 2009. The scheme means all new tenants moving into a council home are offered the chance to rent basic furniture items such as sofas and chairs, as well as white goods including fridge freezers and washing machines. The aim of the scheme, which is run in partnership with Your Homes Newcastle, is to help reduce the high costs associated with setting up a new home. Tenants can choose household items from an options menu when their tenancy is agreed and the rental cost is based on the items they choose from the menu. R
