Derby Homes has paid tribute to its chief executive, who has
died from cancer at the age of 59. Phil
Davies had led the organisation – which manages homes on behalf of Derby City
Council – since its creation in 2002. The
housing provider said Mr Davies died "peacefully in his sleep" and
was surrounded by his family. It said he
was diagnosed with cancer in June and died on Tuesday, 3 July. A spokesman said: "The news has come as
a shock to the organisation and the social housing sector, in which Phil was
greatly respected. "Phil was an
inspirational leader for social housing in Derby
and across the UK . He has been instrumental in improving the
lives of thousands of tenants across the city." Derby City Council leader Paul Bayliss said:
"Phil was a dedicated housing professional and instrumental in setting up
and leading Derby Homes. I will miss him, his advice and his good humour. My
thoughts are with his family at this time."
