The government should concentrate its efforts to tackle
under-occupation on households with two spare bedrooms and remove the exemption
for pensioners, a housing association chief executive has argued. David Bogle,
chief executive of Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association,
argues under-occupation is a problem in social housing, but the government is
taking the wrong approach to addressing the issue. He suggests the government
should look at households that are under-occupying by two or more bedrooms and
have been doing so for ‘significant periods of time’. He also says the policy
should be applied to young and old equally. Read more on Inside Housing.
