A housing industry body has urged the Chancellor of the
Exchequer to save the UK ’s
economy – by building more homes. The
Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has told the Government that it risks “serious
economic consequences” unless its uses its next spending round to boost house
building. In its submission to the
Government, the CIH has called on ministers to invest £2 billion a year in
funding for affordable housing from 2015/16 and to raise local authority
housing borrowing caps by £7bn. This
would support the construction of between 70,000 and 80,000 new affordable
homes a year, making a significant contribution to addressing our chronic lack
of new homes. Read more on the Housing
