A total of 5,250 people started on universal credit
between April 2013 and January 2014, statistics released by the Department for
Work and Pensions has revealed. Of the 5,250 starts, 3690 were men and 1,550
were women meaning the male to female ratio was 7:3. The majority of new
claims, 3,370, were made by people under 25. Download the figures from the Gov
