The head of the civil service, Sir Bob Kerslake, has been
axed by Prime Minister David Cameron. Earlier this month, Sir Bob, who is also the CLG's
permanent secretary, admitted that the business case for the government's troubled
universal credit system had not yet been approved by the Treasury, with the
department releasing funds on a piecemeal basis. Days later, work and pensions
secretary Iain Duncan Smith was forced to admit in the House of Commons that
