Salford City Council has introduced a scheme aimed at
increasing standards in the private rented sector (PRS) in parts of the City.
The scheme, which went through extensive consultation with over 7,800 landlords,
managing agents and tenants, covers around 760 PRS homes. The scheme, which will come into effect in
January and will last for five years, will require landlords to obtain a
licence from the council. They will need to show basic safety checks have been
carried out and they have appropriate management arrangements in place. It will
be a criminal offence to operate a PRS property in the designated area without
a licence or to fail to comply with any of the conditions of the licence. Read
