There’s been a sharp rise in the number of complaints
made about lettings agents ahead of the requirement that came into effect today
that they register with an approved redress scheme, the property ombudsman
(TPO) has revealed. The figures, published in TPO’s 2014 Interim Report
revealed that 1,187 complaints were resolved in total about both sales and
lettings issues between 1 January and 30 June 2014, with 721 complaints (61%)
made against letting agents – a 37% increase on the same period last year. The
Ombudsman upheld 74% of the complaints made by landlords and tenants against
