The number of new homes for social rent fell to its
lowest level since the Second World War during 2013-14, government figures have
shown. Just 10,840 social rent homes were built by councils and housing
associations during 2013-14, the lowest figure since 1945, tables published by
the CLG revealed. It means that of the 42,710 'affordable' homes built during
