Spending on housing benefit has fallen for the first time
in a decade, Iain Duncan Smith has said. The Work and Pensions Secretary said the benefit fell by
£150million in real terms in the last year. Despite the fall, housing benefit payments are still some
£1.6billion higher than they were at the start of the coalition government.
Nevertheless, the fact they have fallen will reassure ministers. The Tories
have pledged to find billions more in welfare cuts if re-elected. Read more on
