Private rents continue on an inexorable upwards
trajectory, according to the latest figures from the Office for National
Statistics (ONS), with a 2.7% increase in Great Britain in the 12 months to
September 2015. According to the latest Index of Private Housing Rental Prices,
the cost of renting grew by 2.8% in England during this period, 1.6% in
Scotland, and 0.5% in Wales. Furthermore, rental prices increased in all the
English regions during this period, with London showing the strongest upwards
motion at 4.1%. ONS data shows that the rate of annual rent rises has increased
every month this year, and this is unlikely to change in 2016 given that some
landlords may be forced to put up rents in a response to increasing costs. Read
