The first wave of Starter Homes is to be helped on their
way with £8 million of public money to pay for the preparation of 27 sites
across the country, the Government has announced. The money will be shared
between councils in the wake of the first round of successful bids for
government support. The money is to assist councils in enabling Starter Homes
on local brownfield sites that are underused or vacant through measures such as
clearance, remediation, demolition and site investigations. The Government has
also published proposals to broaden the definition of affordable housing to
cover homes for sale as well as rent. Read more on the Housing Excellence
