The number of new affordable homes created in England
leapt by 55% in 2014-15 although there was a fall in the supply of properties
available at the lowest social rents, bringing it to its lowest level in more
than two decades. A total of 66,640 affordable homes were provided during the
year, up from 42,870 in 2013-14, according to the CLG, with the number made up
of new-build properties and those bought by housing associations and councils.
The figure was the highest in 19 years and more than double the 32,920 created
in 2002-03. However, the number of homes built for social rent fell by 12% to
9,590, lower than the 10,920 delivered in 2013-14 and the lowest since records
began in 1991/92. Read more on the CLG website.
