The Government’s target of one million new homes by 2020
is not based on a “robust analysis” a
key Lords Committee has found. To address the current housing crisis at least
300,000 new homes are needed annually over the foreseeable future says the
select committee on economic affairs. The resulting report warns that that one
million homes by 2020 will not be enough. To hit target, the committee says the
government must recognise the inability of the private sector – as currently
incentivised – to build the number of homes needed. Download the report from
the Parliament website.
