Industry leaders claimed local authorities were imposing
excessive demands when giving housing developments planning consent. The claims
were made to MPs on the Commons CLG committee which is investigating the
housebuilding industry and if government targets to build thousands of new
homes can be met. MPs heard claims that councils planning committees are adding
demands to decisions that cannot be signed off or enforced later due to
resourcing issues. As a result, developments are being delayed. Read more on
