Britain spends nearly twice as much on state-subsidised
housing, housing benefits and helping the homeless as other wealthy EU
countries, an official report said. UK taxpayers paid £100 in housing support
for every £66 that went on state housing in the next most generous EU country,
France. German taxpayers pay only £52 to help low-paid, unemployed or homeless
people put a roof over their heads, according to Office for National Statistics
