Councils to Raid Supporting People Funds

The Supporting People programme is likely to be plundered by councils hit by cuts in the local authority budgetary settlement, a survey has indicated. Eighty-two per cent of local authority commissioners said that ‘little or no protection’ would be given to their supported housing programmes when their budgets are set next year. Overall funding for Supporting People has only received minor cuts compared with other areas, declining from £1,636 million in 2010/11 to £1,590 million by 2014/15. But as the money is not ring fenced councils may have to divert funding to other areas. Read more on Inside Housing.
