Alison Seabeck MP (Labour, Shadow Housing Minister): What estimate has been made of the number of under-occupied properties of each type in the social rented sector?
Andrew Stunell MP: There were an estimated 400,000 under-occupied houses and 20,000 under-occupied flats in the social rented sector in 2008, as measured by the bedroom standard. These estimates are based on data from the 2008 English Housing Survey.
