Eric Pickles has said that axing the Audit Commission will save the taxpayer £50 million a year. He said the department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) is on course to deliver around £170 million savings under its quango reform, which also includes the axing of the Tenant Services Authority and the reform of the Homes and Communities Agency. By 2012, the Tenant Services Authority's functions will have been merged into the HCA with a new regulatory committee set up inside the investment agency. Read more on 24dash.
