Latest homelessness stats show the total number of people
currently living in temporary accommodation in England is 79,880 – up 3% from
last year and 56% from 2010. Government figures for 2017-18 do confirm the number
of those living in B&Bs as down 10% on the previous at 5,940 – but this is
still an increase of 190% from 2010. The number of homeless children and older
people in temporary accommodation has reached its highest level in nearly 10
years, with Labour saying Tory ministers should be “ashamed” of their record on
