A charity has called for a ‘major’ building programme of
social and affordable homes, as part of a new report. Research by 4Children,
which interviewed 2,221 people, found that 27 per cent of parents agreed that
better housing would make a positive difference to their family life. The
results led the charity to call on the government, within its report Making Britain Great for Children and
Families, for the social building programme, along with a commitment to
tackle the issues in ‘problem estates’ and build positive communities for
children and families, including action on gangs. The Family Commitment
campaign also calls on the government to carry out a major overhaul of support
for vulnerable families. Download a copy of the report from the 4Children
website.
