Landlords Boycotting Companies That Support Shelter

Landlords are attempting to launch a boycott of businesses that support housing charity Shelter, according to housing industry website Property Industry Eye, which reported this week that while Shelter paid tribute to B&Q and Marks & Spencer for their support over the winter period, the National Landlords alliance has targeted the stores. Property Industry Eye reported that “some landlords have already written to B&Q to warn them that they will no longer be making any purchases there.” Read more on the Big Issue website.

MPs Vote for Inquiry into Impact of Benefit Cuts

MPs have voted for an inquiry into the impact of Government benefit cuts. A cross-party motion calling for a proper assessment of the effects of slashing welfare payments was passed by a majority of 123 after coalition MPs boycotted the vote. Labour's shadow Cabinet Office minister Jon Ashworth said the 125 to two result was a fresh evidence that the Government was a "shambles". Ministers will be desperate to ignore the result but it will fuel demands for the Tory-led coalition to properly investigate what is happening to the poor and vulnerable.
