A company that has developed a way of building homes from recycled plastic is hoping the social housing sector will be its core market. Affresol has spent two years developing a material called Thermo Poly Rock, which is made from recycled waste plastic and minerals and can be used to build low-carbon affordable homes. The homes can be built relatively cheaply, at about £48,000 for a three-bedroom home, although extras such as ventilation and heat pumps could put the price up. Each house can be put up within about four days, is made from about 18 tonnes of recycled plastic waste and should last more than 60 years. Read more details on the Inside Housing website.
