ERoSH, the national consortium of sheltered and retirement housing, the Centre for Housing and Support (CHS) and Hanover Housing Group have raised concerns that a proposed European benchmark for sheltered housing will lower standards across the industry unless it is changed. They believe that the proposed European standard ‘Sheltered housing - requirements for services for elderly people provided in a sheltered housing scheme' does not reflect the diversity of sheltered housing in the UK, and have identified gaps when comparing it to existing industry standards. They have also questioned the need for a consumer standard given the wealth of existing sector guidance. Read more on the ERoSH website.
