Council Cuts Staff to Save £1.2m

Slough council is to axe senior staff and members of its housing team to save £1.2 million.  The local authority has released plans to restructure its managerial team and housing department. Plans include reducing the number of directors from five to four and the number of senior managers from 27 to 17. The housing service will be restructured after ALMO People 1st was brought back in house on 1 July to save money, as it had achieved the decent homes standard.  The council said it could not say yet if managerial losses would come from the housing department, but they will be carried out voluntarily or by not filling existing vacancies.  Slough’s housing service currently manages 6,505 rented and 885 leasehold properties. If the proposals are agreed, the changes will be implemented before 1 April next year.  Read more on Inside Housing.
