Housing Shadow to Lead Policy Review

New shadow housing minister Alison Seabeck will help lead a review of Labour’s housing policy and focus attacks on housing benefit reforms and plans to end security of tenure.  Ms Seabeck, MP for Plymouth Devonport, has a long-standing interest in housing as a member of the Labour housing group. She said she would review the party’s housing policy to ensure it addresses the current state of the sector.  Ms Seabeck said: ‘In terms of policy development we will look to update our views on a lot of areas but also work out how we can be in a position to increase the supply of affordable homes now that the recession has hit.’ She will focus on increasing housing supply, the impact of housing benefit reforms, and the party’s policy on tenure.  Ms Seabeck criticised the coalition government’s housing announcements to date and described housing minister Grant Shapps as ‘a great performer on stage’ whose policies were ‘poorly thought through’.
