Homeless Teens Are ‘Unsuitably’ Housed

Hundreds of vulnerable 16 and 17-year-olds are being housed by councils in accommodation the government considers unsuitable, research has revealed. Almost 700 teenagers in this group were housed in bed and breakfast accommodation in the first 10 months of last year, a survey of 59 English authorities has discovered. Government guidance issued in April last year labelled B&Bs ‘unsuitable’ accommodation for this age range. This latest finding is part of an on-going investigation into how homeless 16 and 17-year-olds are being housed inappropriately without proper assessments of their support needs.
