Affordable Rent Won't Work With £26,000-A-Year Benefit Cap

The National Housing Federation has welcomed a number of concessions made by the Government in the investment framework for delivering affordable housing. The document sets out the detail of the new model, which will see rents for newly built homes set at up to 80% of the local market rate. Under the proposals, the Government hopes that 150,000 new homes will be built by March 2015. However, the Federation remains concerned that some key problems have not been addressed – particularly those around the impact of benefit reform and the way in which the proposed new model works in low value areas.
