Southwark Council has become the latest to express disappointment at its decent homes allocation, claiming it has half what is needed. The government allocated the council £77 million over four years, when it handed out £1.6 billion of decent homes funding. Southwark bid for £148 million, which it says is needed to allow it to make its homes safe, warm and dry.
The council will receive no decent homes funding in 2011/12, followed by £11.25 million in 2012/13, £15 million in 2013/14, and £50.7 million in 2014/15. However allocations for the final two years have not been confirmed, and the 2012/13 funding is subject to wider changes on housing finance rules. The Homes and Communities Agency said it is normal to make funding allocations for later years indicative ‘to check on progress and value for money’. Read more on Inside Housing.
