Shadow housing minister Alison Seabeck has told delegates at a housing conference in the South West her housing team is putting together a policy to combat a housing crisis which is getting worse under the coalition government and, which she believes, is not doing enough to build much needed affordable housing. She told delegates at a Chartered Institute of Housing event in Torquay: “We are facing a massive housing crisis for the next election. What’s happening in housing at the moment is utterly disruptive. This, coupled with the changes in benefit, will create more homeless people in the UK and even longer waiting lists for affordable housing.” She dismissed the New Homes Bonus as “expensive, disproportionate and ineffective. An unfair policy where not enough homes will be built in the areas that actually need them.” Read more on the CIH website.
