Councils will have to detail the size, type and tenure of new homes they want built in their areas, under government proposals to streamline the planning regime. Authorities must also indicate how fast new housing should be delivered, the draft national planning policy framework states. ‘To boost the supply of housing, local planning authorities should…illustrate the expected rate of delivery through a housing trajectory for the plan period.’ The 52-page planning framework replaces more than 1,000 pages of policy documents that have accumulated over the past decade.
