A council is preparing for homelessness to increase by at least a quarter as a result of changes to Local Housing Allowance. Southwark Council said it was predicting a rise of at least 25 per cent in homelessness cases across the borough with the caps in LHA of between £250 and £400 which arrived in April. Currently the council has driven homelessness cases down each of the past five years to reach a figure of 1,000-a-year. That figure is expected to rise to 1,250 next year due to the caps on LHA and the shortage of lower cost private sector rented accommodation. Read more on Inside Housing.
