Labour leader Ed Miliband has called for reforms to social housing and the benefits system so they 'reward the right people with the right values'. In his keynote speech to the Labour conference in Liverpool, Mr Miliband said the current welfare system needed 'fixing' as it wasn't delivering the right results. But he warned: "If you think putting it right means just stripping away welfare then you are better off with Iain Duncan Smith and David Cameron." In a virtually policy-free address, Mr Miliband made one specific housing pledge - to make councils change their social housing allocation policies so that they favour people 'who make a contribution to their community'.
