David Cameron has pledged to increase the discounts to council housing tenants who wish to buy their homes and for the money raised from the sales to be re-invested in new affordable homes. He said that there are still more than two million homes that could be bought through the right to buy. He said by introducing ‘proper discounts’ and ensuring every home bought is replaced the government would deliver 100,000 more affordable homes, creating 200,000 jobs. Mr Cameron did not give details of the extent of the discount that would be offered. These are expected in a policy paper on housing due to be published this autumn. Read more on Inside Housing.
