Affordable Housing Starts Down 97 Per Cent

Affordable housing starts in the six months to September 2011 have fallen by 97 per cent when compared to the same period last year, according to the latest government figures. Statistics published on the Homes and Communities Agency website show there were just 454 affordable housing starts on site in England between 1 April 2011 and 30 September 2011. In the same period in 2010, there were 13,402 starts. Of the 454 homes, 259 were for social rent and 195 for low cost homeownership. Completions also suffered a fall, with 12,803 in 2011, but 19,533 in 2010, a drop of 34 per cent. Find the statistics on the HCA website.
