Eviction Threat for Non-Working New Tenants

New council tenants could lose their home if they are not in work or training, under plans being drawn up by a Conservative-led council. Wandsworth Council, in London, is planning a pilot scheme which would see new tenants given a council house on the condition they find work or enrol on a training course. If tenants are not in work or training they will have breached their tenancy and could be evicted. The new rules would only apply to selected new fixed term tenancies, existing tenants on secure tenancies won’t be affected. Councillors on the authority’s housing and overview and scrutiny committee will be asked to agree the proposals. Read more on Inside Housing.
