The Housing Report

Since the coalition Government came to power in May 2010 it has taken a big bang approach to reform announcing significant changes to the planning system, welfare, investment and social tenure. Their aim is to meet people's housing aspirations. The Government has its work cut out to achieve this against a background of the lowest levels of house building for decades. This is the background to The Housing Report, produced jointly by CIH, NHF and Shelter, which by collating and presenting the facts, seeks to establish whether the Government’s approach to housing is helping, and to ensure housing policy remains at the heart of political debate over the course of the Parliament. The report found the government is falling short across a number of areas including ensuring sufficient housing supply, tackling homelessness and improving affordability in the private rented sector.
