Housing minister Grant Shapps has come under fire from a Labour MP who has claimed that a homelessness charity in her constituency recently reported a "sixfold increase in rough sleeping" and feared Government cuts would worsen the situation. During Communities and Local Government (CLG) question time in the House of Commons, Labour MP for Nottingham South Lilian Greenwood, said homelessness charity Framework reported the increase over the last year. She said: "Framework, recently reported a sixfold increase in rough sleeping in Nottingham over the past year. How does he respond to chief executive Andrew Redfern’s warning that the Government’s deep cuts and welfare changes risk undermining Framework’s 10 years of success in tackling homelessness?" Mr Shapps said the statistics the Government had for her local authority showed the levels of homelessness have fallen over the past two years. Read more on 24dash.
