Homelessness charity Crisis has warned the Government of an impending "catastrophe" ahead of further housing benefit cuts due to come in from next month. From January, Local Housing Allowance (LHA) caps come in for existing claimants - as does the Shared Accommodation Rate (SAR) extension. The latter will see those aged 35 or under receive only the lower shared room rate rather than the full rate for a one-bed flat. Previously the lower benefit only applied to those under 25. Duncan Shrubsole, director of policy at Crisis, said the charity was "very worried". He said: "We're going to see people getting into real difficulties - just hanging in there, facing eviction and then potentially being uprooted and homeless." Read more on 24dash.
