A London council has announced plans to give all army veterans greater priority for council housing. Southwark Council already gives priority for housing to ex-soldiers who have been injured in conflict but will now extend the policy to cover all former service personnel seeking a home in the borough. Under the scheme, ex-service personnel who have been discharged from active service in the three years before making a new housing application with the council will now be granted additional priority on the housing list - within their assessed priority band. The council says it wants to show recognition of the "considerable contribution made to society by service personnel on active service". Southwark also hopes it will help former soldiers adjust to life on "Civvy Street" given their "often challenging circumstances". Read more on 24dash.
