London has received the lion's share of a funding package announced by the Government to help councils and benefit claimants hit by welfare cuts. Local authorities in the capital have been handed £5.9m - part of a £15m fund allocated by the Government this year - which aims to help councils and benefit claimants in the private rented sector. The funds form part of a wider £49m funding package to help with the housing benefit cuts until 2015. The cash is on top of the £130m Discretionary Housing Payments and the £10m for homelessness prevention in London. Read more on the DWP website.
